What does “Best Before” mean?

In Sweden and across the European Union, there is a clear legal distinction between two types of date markings:

Best Before
Indicates the period during which the product retains its optimal quality (taste, texture, aroma).
➡️ After this date, the product can still be safely consumed.

Use By
Relates to food safety and applies only to highly perishable products.
➡️ Products with a “Use By” date must not be sold after that date.
