Whole pupunha hearts of palm, PREDILECTA, 540g
Hearts of palm are cut from the kernel of a palm species native to South and Central America. After harvesting, they are cut into rolls or rings and pickled in brine. They look like smooth, thick white asparagus spears and taste similar to artichoke hearts.
The delicate, slightly nutty flavour makes them a popular salad garnish. Their texture is both creamy and crunchy, making them suitable for a variety of dishes.
Pupunha is a kind of palm that, unlike the "Palmito", does not die after being cut, but lends itself to long-term cultivation for over 20 years. Brazil officially produces 20,000 tons of pupunha per year.
